Rebus puzzles are also used in advertising to draw attention to the advertisement and generate interest in the advertised product. The solution to the rebus can be a word, short phrase or a full sentence. Nowadays, rebuses are not used extensively as a form of heraldic expression (as a hint to the name of the bearer) but are a form of word play or creative puzzle meant to entertain both the person is creating it and the one that is supposed to solve it. The composition alludes to the name, profession or personal characteristics of the bearer, and speaks to the beholder "not by words but by things". A more sophisticated example was the rebus of Bishop Walter Lyhart of Norwich, consisting of a stag (or hart) lying down in a conventional representation of water. For example, three salmon (fish) are used to denote the surname "Salmon". Rebus in this form was a favorite form of heraldic expression used in the Middle Ages to denote surnames. For example: the word "car" might be depicted by a rebus showing a cat next to a minus sign (-) and the letter "t" together with the plus sign (+) and the letter "r". DON'T FORGET ABOUT THESE OTHER GREAT OPTIONS This can happen because of two reasons: Batteries do discharge themselves slowly over time because of the cell chemistry, even if there is nothing they are powering. Instead, it waits until your battery drops a few percentage points by itself. Sailing mode does not actively discharge (eg unplug) your MacBook. Maybe as the battery gets older, I'll start to see the battery percentage drop from 80% - as the older battery won't hold its charge as well any more (which was one of his two reasons for the 80% level dropping, cell chemistry). His two reasons don't apply - the newer battery in an M1 Mac isn't discharging much because of cell chemistry, and there are few if any times that the M1 Mac has to draw power from both the power adapter and the battery. On an M1 Mac, the battery (at least when it's newer) will hold that 80% charge most/all of the time (as the two reasons he gives for why the percentage would drop won't happen much on a newer M1 Mac), which is why I don't see the percentage drop from 80% to 70%. I think what he is saying is the MagSafe charger powers the Mac even when the battery is at 80%, and AlDente keeps the battery charge from going above 80%. I should have known that was wrong as the LED is "orange" which means "charging" (and connected of course). I think my misunderstanding was that I thought the battery powers the Mac once the battery is at 80% and that the power adapter does not supply power until the battery drops to 70%, at which time AlDente lets the power adapter charge until the battery is back up to 80%. I heard back, I pasted what he said below. Though, I've only had it for a little over a week now. It's only the discharging that needs higher than 1C current. Charging, though, at 1C or less, as you should charge a LiPo, however, works fine. My theory is that it needs to see a certain minimum voltage drop internally during its balancing process and by Ohm's Law, that would mean you need to increase the current to give it better resolution. So, instead of discharging at 0.5A, use something like 2A. If you are trying to be gentle with it and discharge a 500mah pack at 1C you'll end up with a 4.00v per cell result. The other glitch I found is that when storage charging and doing primarily discharging of the battery, it won't quite get the per cell voltage down to the 3.85v target unless you use a decent discharge current. After some research online, I found that there was an updated firmware to fix this issue and upgrading the v1.00 firmware it came with to the latest v1.02 solved the issue. At first, I thought it was the cable, but other cables did the same thing. The strange thing is the difference remained even after unplugging the battery until I unplugged the cable. When that error occurred, it was showing a 0.51v difference in its reading between the main (overall) battery voltage input and the balance connector inputs. It kept giving a cell voltage mismatch error and refused to start. The first was when Storage-Charging a 2S LiPo. I have, however, encountered a few glitches. I have mainly used it on 2S and 3S LiPo batteries thus far and it's performed admirably. And having the on-board servo tester available is nice. Having the full graphical screen instead of a character-only display makes all the difference. It's so much easier to use and is much less confusing than the Tenergy TB6B I was using. As usual, there's a client built into, and there's even a client built into the Gmail app , which can lead to the awkward situation of your Chat messages arriving in two apps. Google just caught up to Skype and the other popular messaging apps with its latest Hangouts iOS update. All of these different versions can be used to chat with other Hangouts users and share files, as well as set up video conferences with up to 10 participants. The service fell out of favor with Google's legendarily fickle messaging strategy in 2016 with the launch of Google Allo. As well as an app for Android and iOS devices, Google Hangouts is also available as a web application, which can be accessed via a browser. As Android's default messaging service, Hangouts amassed 5 billion downloads, and at one point, it even handled Android SMS duties, just like Apple's iMessage. The Duo app has been rebranded as Google Meet, whereas the Google Meet app is still active, and is now called Google Meet (original). One of the most common tricks used on the 303 was to overdrive it into oblivion, and Arturia puts 14 algorithms at your fingertips for doing that. Next to that you'll find the vibrato controls and then the dedicated distortion circuit. The main instrument has added a few welcome amenities, including a sub oscillator with three selectable waveforms which gives the Acid V more oomph than the original ever had. Oh, and if that's not enough there are different playback modes so you can pingpong through a sequence, play it backwards or just bounce around randomly.Īrturia didn't save all the upgrades for the advanced tab, though. This gives you a lot of power to build something that's constantly evolving, especially if you're taking use of the full 64 steps. And there's even a polymetric option that allows you to change the sequence length of the notes, slides, vibrato and accents individually. You can easily shift sequences up or down a note chromatically or to the left and right to change the note order. On the left you can lock the sequencer into a particular scale to simplify things, add swing, change the sequence length (up to 64 steps) and even generate random sequences. What made it special was its odd squelchy sound that, when paired with the slides in its sequencer, produced something totally unique and became the core of acid house, hence the name Acid V. It's a bass machine - monophonic with a single oscillator, a 24db lowpass filter and an envelope generator to manipulate the filter. In part because the original 303 is a reasonably simple instrument. Well, I feel slightly embarrassed because there was a pretty obvious gap in Arturia's lineup I had overlooked: The Roland TB-303.Īrturia Acid V is probably one of the simpler instruments the company has made in recent years. We did get a version of the Korg MS-20 in May of 2022 as part of V Collection 9, but otherwise things have been pretty quiet. At this point the company has tackled many of the most iconic synths in history, and spent much of last year focused on its original creations like the Augmented series, Pigments, Fragments and Dist Coldfire. I've been wracking my brain trying to figure out what would be the next vintage synth to get the Arturia emulation treatment.
